PTE CUSTOMERS ENJOY BANNER YEAR IN 2006
If fun is measured by success at the track, you could say Precision Turbo customers had a lot of fun in 2006 -- no matter what the venue or type of car. Seven series championships, 5 special event titles and 13 national records showed what kind of success racers had with Precision Turbo.
After a busy season of racing throughout the country, some might have thought that the team of Tim Lynch & Steve Petty might be a bit tired. They proved that certainly wasn’t the case in late November when Lynch won his first ever ORSCA Outlaw 10.5 event with a stunning 4.367 ET in the eighth mile. When added to his 174.03 MPH record he set the month before, this made for a rather impressive set of book ends that set the mark for 2007.
David Hance enjoyed his best year behind the wheel with the NMRA Outlaw 10.5 championship. Hance also won the prestigious Englishtown Ultra Quick 8 and Atco Outlaw 10.5 championships as well. Kevin Hargett won the Clash of the Titans Outlaw 10.5 championship while newcomer Conrad Scarry won the Fun Ford Street Outlaw 10.5 in just his first full year of competition. At the annual World Ford Challenge, Brian Carpenter made 2006 a year to remember for him when he won the 10.5 Pro Outlaw class. In National Street Car Association (NSCA) action, Leo Barnaby III finished the year with both the ET and Speed records in Super Street. No other power adder manufacturer enjoyed as much success in 10.5 racing as Precision Turbo did in 2006.
The same could be said for Drag Radial racing as well. John Kolivas won the hotly contested NMRA title, which gave Precision Turbo two consecutive titles in as many years. In Pacific Street Car Association action, Steven Short won the Drag Radial season championship and finished the year with the National ET and Speed records. Precision Turbo customers continued to find success on both coasts as Brian Macy and Chris Tuten won Drag Radial special event titles at the Street Car Super Nationals and the 5.0 Civil Wars respectively. Mike Keenan continued that trend with a Drag Radial win at the prestigious Orlando World Finals. At the end of 2006, one of the last great records left in drag racing was broken when Jason Ardron broke the 200-mph barrier in a Drag Radial car when he went 201.65.
The Mustangs of Tim Lynch (Fun Ford Outlaw 10.5), David Hance (NOPI Pro Outlaw) and Eric Dillard (ORSCA Limited Street) finished with speed records in their respective categories. Ed Thornton’s PSCA Pro Street record of 228.73 remained untouched for the second consecutive year while Jim Wien’s 211.21 MPH stood up as the top speed record in NHRA Competition’s AA/AT class.
In Sport Compact action, Brad Personett won the high profile NHRA Sport Compact Pro RWD championship for the second consecutive year in dominating fashion with his 6-cylinder Scion. Brad was the car to beat all season and finished the year with both ends of the national record (6.41 FT, 220.15MPH) as icing on the cake. Paul Efantis won his second NHRA Sport Compact Modified championship in three years with his twin turbo Toyota Solara. Paul ran as quick as a 7.35 at 185+ mph last year in this six cylinder, rear wheel drive car. Stephanie Eggum’s low budget team nearly made it 3 for 3 for Precision Turbo in NHRA Sport Compact with her runner up finish in Hot Rod. Stephanie won a number of races in 2006 and finished with both ends of the national record with a 7.90 at 184.25 to become the quickest FWD Honda in the history of the sport.
In land speed record action with the Southern California Speed Association, George Poteet was the fastest of the fast in his 1968 Barracuda dubbed the “Blowfish”. Poteet and the Rad Rides by Troy team broke the long standing BF/CCF record at Bonneville with an astounding 255.412 MPH pass – from a 4 cylinder! Jorgen Moeller also ran a Dodge Neon SRT-4 to a new land speed record with a 221.383 MPH pass in the Southern California Timing Association’s PS/F class. Jorgen already had the BSTR/F record at 196.880 in a 2.4 litre powered roadster.
All told, Precision Turbo & Engine customers won 7 national championships, 5 special event titles and set 13 national records in nearly every racing arena in 2006.
